Fabric Love Letter Envelope

Hi again :)

I wanted to make something for my beautiful niece Rowena last week, and I thought I'd try something a little different. I wanted to try stamping on fabric, but I didn't have any fabric ink pads. So I diligently mixed up some acrylic paints and mixed in some fabric additive so the image could be ironed for permanancy afterwards.

The mixture was quite watery, and it made it a little difficult to control, especially trying to achieve a bit of a grungey effect. I used a few Tim Holtz stamps, and the word mail is from a set of Darkroom Door alphabets. I used a sponge to attempt the grunge around the edges. I backstitched the 'love'.

The centre panel and the exterior flaps on the back is just dyed calico, and the log cabin fabric has been foundation pieced in J Apple 'n' Bee fabric. The inside has been lined in fabric from this same range.

This envelope measures 8" by 10" and it's usefulness is for holding love letters from a someone special. I'm sure my niece will be able to put something in there.... ;)

more mailart

After Sarah's mailart challenge last month at Inkurable Stampers, I have been inspired to take more care with my envelopes, especially for special occasions.

About a week ago, my daughter and I went to a class with Sarah Schwerin and made some cards using Kaisercraft Utopia stamps. The one card I almost finished at class (sorry Sarah - I'm so slow) was given to a staff member who finished work with us today, after 8 years or so with us. As it was definitely a special occasion, I decorated her envelope to match.

As I said, the stamps are from Kaisercraft (Utopia) and the background has been coloured using Distress Inks (Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire and Dusty Concord). I have also used white gel pen for highlighting, and blue and purple pencils for definition.

I've been busy finishing off a few projects over the last week or so, so I should be back soon with something else to show ;)

Sunday Stamper week 107

Hi everyone :)

I just want to say thanks for all the visitors and lovely wishes I've had for making the DT over at The Stamping Queen - it is much appreciated :)

Hels' Sheridan theme over at Sunday Stampers was numbers this week (in celebration of a certain birthday she was having), and she is giving away some blog candy. Click on the link in my sidebar to find out how you can join in.

In support of Hels, I have created an ATC in honour of my wonderful husband who celebrated his 40th birthday last week ;)

I have used Darkroom Door Essentials 4 Collection stamps, the clock from Tim Holtz Life's Possibilities stamps, and some foam number stamps. The words 'enjoy life' are clear embossed, and the background is distress ink (scattered straw, spiced marmalade, wild honey, rusty hinge, vintage photo, walnut stain). The clock is stamped in walnut stain, and the smaller words in vintage photo. I removed the ink from the hands of the clock stamp, and backstitched them in DMC thread #3827 and #938 to show the time as 4.00.

The zero of the '40' hangs attached by brad, eyelet and jump rings, and is positioned to show the arrow of the clock hand pointing at the 4 (it does hang loose though).

My husband was so eager to snaffle this ATC, that I nearly didn't get to photograph it!

Happy day to everyone :)

Inkurable Stampers June Challenge

Sarah over at Inkurable Stampers has chosen stars as the theme for June. You can interpret the 'star' theme anyway you can (movie star, star stamp, star saying etc) so long as you use a stamp.

I have made an ATC for my June challenge.

The little stars were made using an old metal embossing plate and tool, which I then coloured with a VersaMark pen and clear embossing powder. I then used Distress Inks (broken china, faded jeans, chipped sapphire) to colour the sky.

I have used two stamps - Stampotique 'Eric' (although I chopped most of him off to fit!) which was coloured using more Distress Inks, and the star which comes off a Stamp It stamp called 'Curvy Christmas Tree' which I've had for quite a while. The were both embossed in black, and the star has been generously coated in AED 'white fizz' glitter, though it doesn't sparkle much in the photo. The thread holding the star is gold DMC thread.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Sunday Stamper week 105

I decided on a LO for my effort for Sunday Stampers this week (lucky I just got it finished in time!)

The theme was 'wings'....

I started with Stampotique 'honeycomb background' and Distress Inks (spun sugar, victorian velvet, walnut stain) and stamped and inked my way around the edge of kraft cardstock. Then I took my eyelet punch tool and random punched around the edge, and tore the straight edge off. The flourish stamps and the writing on the wing tips are Tim Holtz 'urban grunge' stamps. The wings are none other than Tim Holtz Alteration die 'butterfly'.

The colours aren't a brilliant representation, but that's what you get for leaving it till the last minute (at night) to photograph your creation.....

Have a great day :)

Stampotique Designers Challenge 8

Hi everyone :)

The challenge for this week at Stampotique Designers Challenge blog was to use purple! Not a colour I use often, even though I really quite like the look of it when I do use it....

I have used the cute little stampotique guy 'smile' on my card - and given him some purple colour on his clothing with distress inks. He is holding a bunch of flowers for his recipient :) In keeping with the purple theme, when I cut him out after embossing him, I decided to give him purple wire hair ;)

Sketch Saturday Week 105

Hello!

Here is my card for Sketch Saturday blog this week.

I have used DD Art De Fleur Vol2 stamps, and distress inks (milled lavender, dusty concord, mustard seed, spiced marmalade and peeled paint) to colour my main image, as well as to stamp the leaves embellishment. The papers are Bo Bunny 'flutter butter' as well as some bazzill.

The white lace is actually from the same piece, but I have trimmed it to two different sections - one for the top which has black ribbon threaded through the eyelet holes, and one for the scallop at the bottom.
