Stampotique SDC263

Stampotique are having a colour challenge this week.  I found the colours a little tricky, so I kept my project simple.

I made a grouping of flag tags for my kids to give to my husband for father's day (this coming Sunday in Australia).

Thanks for visiting!

Fave fave fave colour combo!

Black white and lime green....

I love it...

I absolutely HAD to play along at The Play Date Cafe who are having one of their colour splash challenges.  Isn't this inspiration picture just gorgeous?!  Did I say I love this colour combo?  ;)

I also wanted to enter Moxie Fab World's 'The Focal Point' Challenge. With two teenagers in the house, and  sometimes unexpected friends birthdays popping up, this card came together with just that focus in mind.  I really wanted to add a little bling, but even when I tried black bling I felt it made the card too feminine, so I opted out so it could be used for a boy or girl.

This is a pretty simple card, and I had loads of fun making it.  It has been very relaxing sitting indoors while the wind whips around outside, creating and photographing my project.   I mixed some gesso with Dylusions Ink Spray to make the lime circles - the black one is acrylic paint.  I used two die cut 'u' shapes, and mounted them with glue dots for a little extra dimension.

cutting it fine

Well the Play Date Cafe colour challenge for this week is nearly over, and I've only just finished my card.  I've been trying to work on this for at least the last 4 days, but it just hasn't happened until just now.

Here is the beautiful inspiration picture....

And here is my entry.  A Father's Day card (father's day in Australia is at the beginning of September), with a painty background, some stencilling and stamping with stamps and found objects.

The banner stamp, greeting and stars are Verve, and I stamped the background of the banner with a Unity stamp.  I love the contrast of the mixed media background with the structure of the banner.

Over at Simon Says Stamp and Show blog they are having a "no rules" challenge this week.  I am also entering my card in to their challenge.

Thanks for visiting today!

Book Art Journal - marriage

So it's been a couple of weeks, but this week I decided I'd tackle the abstract noun 'marriage'.

I didn't use any stamps on this page --- thought I'd try my hand at a bit of sketching - I'm not a very confident drawer, and I took inspiration for my bride and groom from the internet, though I'm not sure how well they turned out - I thought my practise sketch was better, oh well....

The page was completed with Derwent Inktense Pencils, and a little paint for the frame/border.  The white texture you might be able to see in the corners is gesso stencilled through a piece of tulle.

Thanks for visiting.

Play Date Cafe and Stampotique

A combination of challenges this week.  Firstly with the colour scheme from The Play Date Cafe #144 - gorgeous summery pink, orange and yellow.  Here is their inspiration picture...

And secondly, a sketch challenge brought to you by Stampotique Designers Challenge, SDC60, and here it is...

And finally, here is my card......

*Edited to add: This was chosen as a Cream in our Coffee

I began with a piece of artist canvas which I sprayed with Dylusions Ink Sprays - yum!

I stamped the flower numerous times, and then slowly stitched around the image lines with my sewing machine.  With the canvas being quite thick, this resulted in giving the flowers some depth.  I highlighted this with some watered down white paint around the flower tips, and shaded the centres with a little black Derwent Inktense Pencil.  Then I masked the flowers and stamped the French Text image repeatedly.

To finish the smaller top section I used a stencil and dry brushed white paint through it.  I added a little ribbon and ric rac, and finally, I crocheted a black flower to really set off those beautiful colours in the canvas.

This was so much fun!  I do hope that you'll give one or both of these challenges a go!  Thanks for stopping by :)

August Calendar - a little bit vintage

Well I haven't got around to any more art journal pages.  It's been a couple of weeks of sickness here, as well as trying to reorganise my stamp stash - that is one big job!

But I do have my August Calendar page to show.  I was inspired to go vintage this month.  I began with layers of book paper, and applied a paint wash over it. I love how the book paper went a bit wrinkly in there.  I roughed up the edges as well and added some distress inks and stamps to the edges to help frame with that vintage feel.

Hubby gave me some water colour paints a few months ago for my birthday in a convenient little stacker so I can take them with me when we go on holidays, but I used them on the butterflies here, and I love how they turned out!

I combined a bunch of stamps and inks to give me doilies, and hanging decorations for the month title.

I'm really happy with how this one turned out.  I am playing along with Kate Crane's monthly calendar journal page.

I am entering this calendar page into the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge this week where the theme is paint.  I figured I used a paint wash on the background, and water colour paints for the butterflies - so why not?

Thanks for visiting :)
